Shana Begum – Students’ Union President
Hi my name is Shana Begum and I am your Students’ Union President.
As your new Students’ Union President, it’s a huge honour and pleasure for me to say ‘welcome to the University of Bolton’ to all the new students and the fantastic current students. I have taken time out to fulfill this role, and have yet to complete my Business Management degree here in Bolton.
I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about my ambitions for your Students’ Union and I hope you’ll welcome the ideas I’ve had to help build an inclusive, career-focused service that supports others less fortunate than us.
The University of Bolton has students around the world and from a wide range of backgrounds. So we’ve created new societies, such as the Disabled Students’ Society and Mature Students’ Society, to reflect the diverse student population of our University.
Regardless of our backgrounds, however, we all have something in common – ambition to graduate and enjoy career success. This year we are launching new initiatives to support students in their professional development and we are working with local employers to create career opportunities in Bolton, so when students graduate their skills and knowledge can stay local and continue to contribute to the community of which we are a part.
Of course there are communities around the world so much less fortunate than ours and we want to help. This year we are setting up a Raising And Giving Society (Community and Charity Society) to support worthy causes. Every two months we’ll focus on a new charity but first to benefit from our fund-raising work will be the people of Somalia. As I am sure you have read in the news, people there are trying to survive some of the worst famine and drought conditions in their country’s history. We want to help and we will be updating you with our fundraising ideas very soon. Please regularly check our website, which will also be given a makeover this year.
This is just an introduction to what I plan for us to achieve together during my year as your President. I hope you’ll be keen to get involved and tell me what you’d like from your Students’ Union. We want to focus on listening to students so if you have any ideas on what you want from us please contact me, my email address is supres@bolton.ac.uk
Wherever you are from around the world we are all thrilled that you are a part of us and we wish you every success with your studies this year.
Shana
Semit Kumar Students’ Union Vice-President
My name is Seemit Kumar and I take a lot of pride in being a student in Masters Of Business Administration at the University of Bolton. So far I have been associated with my University at a different level; as a School Representative of BCT. I have confidently presented the academic issues skillfully in the formal meetings and achieved immense knowledge and expertise. I have sat on different Boards within the University such as Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), the Senate and the Academic Board. I have been a part of NSS survey. I am also working as a School Ambassador.
I have constantly supported the Students’ Union and performed my duties, and now AS A SABBATICAL OFFICER, VICE PRESIDENT OF EDUCATION I will not hesitate to show my indomitable will. I have been approached by several students for solving issues and I look forward to upholding the responsibilities of assuring student’s comfort.
Goals to be achieved:
- To enhance the support for international students who feel-ill equipped to engage in the class discussions.
- Encouraging the “Unite-with-Business’ services where students can have additional skills.
- To make sure that overall structure is strengthened along with the Charity Commission and the introduction of the new Charity Act later this year.
- To work closely with Loft bar in order to provide more social activities for students and making events cost efficient for both University and students.
- To be the face and confidence of students providing the best experience one can ever have being at University.
With results of the Annual General Meeting (2011) the Constitution has been constantly tuned to reach it’s current form, to match up to this expectation there’s lot of work needed to be done here at The University of Bolton. I believe in myself, to provide the students with the best services.
Students from all over the world come with a lot of desires and dreams. I want to take steps forward to cater for these services in the best possible way. In addition, I would like to introduce myself as a dynamic and charismatic personality. Being humble, happy go lucky and friendly has been my agenda of life.
I am having a great experience of being a family member of The University Of Bolton and hope you feel the same.
SEEMIT KUMAR
