POST:    International Officer

As a competent individual, it has always been my ambition to represent myself and others at University level. Being an international student at the University of  Bolton for four years, I understand the representation international students need.

By showcasing my skills and abilities, I hope to be a great volunteer officer at the University of Bolton Students’ Union, so that I can contribute to and improve the organisation and the experiences of the student body.

As International Students’ Officer:

  • I aim to be the communication channel for a united voice for international students, while recognising their needs as a diverse group with a medley of interests. As the international student officer, I will be committed to securing the interest of every nationality represented at the University of Bolton.
  •  I will ensure that international student voices are heard with regard to academic, administrative and extra-curricular issues.
  •  I will ensure that international student welfare needs are met through the available resources by working hand-in-hand with the Education and Welfare Officers.
  •  I will ensure that information concerning international student rights are made more accessible; this will help students get the necessary advice when the need arises.
  •  I will discuss with international students any problems or personal experiences they may have faced or may be facing relating to welfare, discrimination or inequality, and direct them towards the proper authorities who can help.
  •  I will Inspire the University to ensure a comprehensive FINANCIAL AID to OVERSEAS students in the form of academic scholarships.

POST:  Equalities Officer

I promise to listen carefully to the voice of disabled students and non-disabled students in University including those with specific learning difficulties. For example the use of a wheelchair, dyslexia, dyspraxia, visual impairment, Dyscalculia, learning difficulties, schizophrenia  hearing impairment, mental and autism.

  •  I will actively promote inclusivity whereby disabled students are actively encouraged to take part as equals.
  •  I will work to encourage collaboration between disabled and non-disabled peers so that students can benefit from each other’s company and promote all the opportunities afforded to non-disabled students.
  • Endeavour to campaign and fight for the voice of disabled students to be heard.
  • Promote diversity for all people to support integration of disabled and non-disabled students in social engagement.
  • Ensure that disabled people feel comfortable discussing their needs and difficulties.
  • I will be available to listen to disabled students and will respond to text, phone calls and email messages
  •  Running a campaign across the university that stresses the large variant of disabilities that students at the University of Bolton have.
  • With the co-operation of a student publication during the disability awareness campaign, run a competition for disabled students to write a short article about their experiences at University. The winners will have their article published in the student publication.
  • Being available to speak to prospective students and parents about what the University of Bolton has to offer to students with disabilities and the student experience itself.
  •  Visiting local educational institutions, giving talks and speaking to students with disabilities about the university experience for disabled students.
  • Being there to help and offer advice to students with disabilities during events such as the fresher’s fair by having my contact email available so students can contact me with any questions that they may have, and in turn, be able to book an appointment to meet with me and see what advice and support I can give them in their first weeks and into their wider time at the University of Bolton.
  • Arranging a focus group and survey to see what experiences disabled students are having at the University of Bolton and then report back to UBSU and also helping students find work.

Disabled people are 5 times more likely than their non-disabled peers to be out of work and claiming benefits.  So lets work together to fill the inequality gap that exists!

POST:  Welfare Officer

I have been studying MSc ADVANCED COMPOSITES DESIGN here are some reasons why I am your Welfare Officer.

‘My mission is to promote good practice in our University, to insure students are aware of their rights! To better your student experience’

When I first arrived here, I did not realise The Students’ Union existed with the primary purpose being for the ‘Student Voice, student rights & student experience’; now that I do I want to promote and raise awareness to help all students!

I feel I am best suited for this position to promote Welfare, I have encountered problem and have received help off the executive sabbatical officer, and I understand that we need more volunteer officers to help promote good practices and raise awareness of welfare issues, to ensure
students are aware that they do not need to be fearful or to be signposted all over the place to receive help!

In my role I want to ensure that there is appropriate provision for students’ general, sexual and mental health issues. To be responsible for ensuring there is excellent student support for students in areas of debt management, and university accommodations. I also want to be responsible for representing students on all equality and diversity issues locally and nationally and working with NUS and other student focused bodies.

I will help co-ordinate and oversee all Union awareness campaigns.

I will work with the University on matters affecting student accommodation.

I will work actively with Unisex and the local and regional Primary Care Trust and external bodies on matters affecting student health as I feel after doing research on our University I feel there is more we can do to help students facing mental health issues.

I want to be able to lobby and campaign to ensure sufficient provision is available for students’ general, sexual and mental health.

Help monitor and update Union policy on equality and diversity matters and ensure University Services and policies fully reflect the diversity of students.

Thank you and see you soon!

POST: NON-SABBATICAL OFFICER

Hi, my name is Adam Johnson. I am currently studying Sports Development. This is my first year at the University of Bolton and so far the Students’ Union has been a massive help to me. This first year of University has not been easy; every one of us goes through the ups and downs of student life. I have faced many of the problems that arise for students and I hope I’ll be able to help students to overcome these problems. My main area of focus will be on Sports and Societies but I also relish the opportunity to focus on other areas of student life.

I will endeavour to improve:-

1.     Sport clubs and Societies

More male and female sports teams that have the opportunity to compete in the British University & College Sport leagues (BUCS). As well as recreational training so that every student can play some role in sport at University.

2.     Maximise memberships for Sports and Societies

Sports teams this year have struggled week in week out to get the required number of players for their games on Wednesday, I will do my upmost to improve the promotion of clubs and societies, not only at the fresher’s fair but throughout the year.

3.     More Students’ Union events throughout the year

I will endeavour to get the Students’ Union to put on more events in addition to the current Poker night and Quiz night. I will try to get you what you want.

4.     Promote the activities of all Sabbatical and Non-Sabbatical Officers

Everyone has different views on different aspects of our Students’ Union and they are all valid, I will make sure that all views are put across to every member of the student body.

As an  elected Students’ Union officer,  I am open to any views of YOU, the student body. I will endeavour to do the best job possible to make them happen.
