Student Representation

Student Representation is changing at Bolton!

There are now more ways than ever for you to have a voice within the University academic structures.  Please see the new structure| for more information on how you can have your voice and feed your comments into the University.

The Students' Union believes that all Student Reps play an important role in representing the student voice and maintaining the quality of courses in the University.

  School Councils

School Councils will be owned and operated by students.

School Councils are open to School Reps, Course Reps and the wider student body.  The purpose of School Councils is to give students the opportunity to come together as a community and to discuss any issues they may have.

School Councils will meet at least twice a year and are primarily a mechanism to ensure the feedback loop within Schools works more efficently.  Students also have the opportunity to set up societies, plan social events or gatherings or just raise wider issues they have within their School.

More information about School Councils will be posted up on notice boards around the School offices and noticeboards shortly.  Please click here| for more information.

  Course Reps

Course Reps are in an excellent position to influence the University.  They have the opportunity to express not just their own views, but act as the spokesperson for all the learners on their course.  This gives them an opportunity to make a real impact and change the learning experience for learners on their course.

  School Reps

School Representatives are in effect a 'second tier' of student representation; they do not replace programme level representatives but are in place to provide a distinction between the two very different roles. They are an essential part of ensuring effective representation at School Level and an integral part of closing the feedback loop.

To represent students at this level takes some responsibility so we are offering students £400.00 incentive packages to sweeten the deal.

Students as Internal Subject Review Panel Members

During the 09/10 academic year, Students have the opportunity to become panel members of an Internal Subject Review.  Student Panel Members will have an important role in providing a student perspective to the Review, particularly when it comes to commenting upon the student experience. Student Panel Members are appointed by the University with the help of the Students' Union.

To represent students at this level takes some responsibility so we are offering students £80.00 each day they take part in a review.

  Extra Credit for Student Representatives

We recognise that student volunteers may want something other than a certificate to say they have been a student representative.  Some students want the option to showcase their personal development by having the opportunity to gain extra credit.

If you are interested in gaining an extra 10 credits on top of your degree credits for your role as a student representative please click here |for more information.
